The Raymond Thompson Company is a MANUFACTURING COMPANY. WE MANUFACTURE SNARES. We do not sell hats, boots, leg traps, buckets, shovels, cage traps, dirt sifters or other product manufacturer items. Snare Manufacturing is our business . That is what we do, and we do it very well! Other businesses sell other items because making snares is only a small part of their income.

Founded in 1925 by Raymond Thompson, the first trapper to be inducted into the 'TRAPPERS HALL OF FAME", Raymond was the inventor of the Modern Steel Snare. After years of experimenting, taking notes and making design changes, The Raymond Thompson applied patents in Canada and the United States for our snare design. Raymond understood the importance of consistency and integrity of the materials used for making snares. This understanding has been continued to this day.

The cable we use in our snares is a 1 X 19 I.P.S. alternate lay cable which has properties far superior to other snare cable. Its surface is very smooth which allows the neck lock to work faster and causes considerably less damage to fur such as destroying guard hairs. Because this is a single strand cable it is able to maintain a good round and flat loop when set. Because it has a non treated surface it does not require waxing or dying to "dull the finish". We manufacture our own parts and materials to assure top quality and integrity of each and every snare.We take pride in manufacturing and providing our customers with the finest quality snares available on the market today!

We have made changes in our snare design in the past ten years to adapt to the ever changing requirements of state regulations. We can manufacture snares to meet any State regulations that exist. Some states now require a CABLE RESTRAINT system for snaring on dry land. This is simply a snare designed for live containment and requires several modifications.

We have divided our snares into five distinct classifications to help you in selecting the appropriate snare as many states have different requirements. These classifications are 1) Standard Snares, Deer stop snares (DS), Release snares (RS), Relaxing Lock/Live Capture Snares (RL), and Cable restraint Snares (CR). We can also make Custom snares to your request.
