Snare Noose release devices have
been on the market for several years now. Until now release devices
were non reusable. Once they were activated either the "hooks"
are destroyed, the ferrule pops off or the lock itself is destroyed.
This required the snare to be removed and replaced creating added
expense and time for the trap line. Other problems include the
difficulty to make proper noose shapes due the the various "hooks"
acting like a hinge at the neck lock.
The Thompson Release Lock is a solution to these problems. This lock is simplicity in action. The Thompson Release Lock has two components, a "Neck Lock Body" which is attached to the snare strand or cable and is completely reusable and a "Release Pin" which activates the release and is easily replaced "on sight" within seconds without additional tools. The release pins are designed in appropriate shapes and sizes to allow for various lock sizes, cable sizes and release weight requirements. The pins can also be changed to prevent release if necessary. Color coating will be applied to various pins for identification.

The snare itself has no initial loop which makes it easier to
work with and set deer stop or noose stop distances since it is
easier to measure along a straight line than a circle. The snare
can be pre set and loaded prior to going to your trap line or
at the set. You can pre set your snares in place before trapping
date by simply leaving the release pin out of position and you
(by definition) do not have a snare because it has no noose and
is safe from accidental capture.
While our patent is in process the tooling required for this system
is not yet complete. However they are expected to be available
by the end of October, 2006.
